Muslims Being Persecuted in America

Eight years and with a new administration, there is no sight of a reprieve for the Muslim Americans. In 2001, the PATRIOT ACT was enacted for a period of four years and in 2005 made permanent. It is this law which gives the administration power to detain any one, idefinitely, incommunicado, subject them to torture and rendition, and it is all legal.

On the campaign, many promises were made by then candidate Obama, one of them being to close Guantanamo Bay prison . At the inauguaral spech, he magnanimously extended his hand of friendship to the Muslim world. However, his policies do not support his words. As though it was not bad enough under Bush, it has become worse under Obama administration.

We go advocating Democracy, Justice and Liberty abroad, yet contradict it by our actions. Hence the lost of our moral standing in the world.

Yes. It is not easy to keep your word, yet one should not give up. Yes. The right wing is harping the fear card, but are they fact based? Yes. The people are getting disillusioned with each passing day, and if the campaign promises are not delivered, this November may be the end of any chance to see justice. It may be the end of LIGHT FOR THE THOUSANDS HELD INCOMMUNICADO, INDEFINITELY by the American government.

Till last year, the buzz word was racial, religious and ethnic profiling. Many Americans denied it. In thier perception, it is legit to sacrifice the civil liberties of a few for the security of many. I agree with them. It is not profiling . It is persecution. Persecution of Muslims on American soil.

Aafia Siddiqui's case is an eye opener. There is no mention of where her missing her children are, where was she for the last five years. She disappeared from Karachi in 2003 and surfaced in Ghazni, Afghanistan in 2008 and during interrogation, she was able to shoot an American agent. The supporters who go to attend the hearing, are being intimidated by the marshalls by taking their ID details. This is the American Justice.

I am waiting to hear the State of the Union speech. President Obama has to stand by what is morally right, because redemption lies in doing what is morally right.
